Apple’s introduction of the M1 chip has revived interest in the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini lines. Although the recently released M1 Pro Mac might not see a huge price drop yet, we can still save some money on those powerful portable devices as well. From the basic MacBook Airs to the tricky MacBook Pro and even the very popular Mac Mini, we’ve rounded up the best ongoing deals to get you into Apple’s macOS ecosystem on any level of hardware you choose.

Apple’s thinnest and lightest laptop remains one of the world’s top recommended choices for any laptop shopper, especially with the onboard M1 chip. The combination of power and battery life is amazing for $1000. Fortunately, the latest sale from Amazon has pushed the base model MacBook Air even lower, bringing the entry cost down by $50 to $949. While some might have a hard time believing the base model M1 Air is as capable as it is, the default 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM built into the 2020 M1 chip is more than a sufficient computer for most users. Cliff Joseph has found an exceptional all-in-one computer for travel and home use.

2020 Apple MacBook Pro with Apple M1 Chip (13-inch, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD Storage) - Space Gray

13-inch MacBook Pro M1 $1,149 – $1,299

Save $150 to $200

Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro was the only other laptop model that got updated to the new M1 chip besides the MacBook Air. Although it looks similar to its Intel-based predecessor from the outside, Jason Cipriani found the updated notebook’s performance to be a massive improvement, with improved battery life, and virtually no impact on application support due to switching from x86 to ARM-based. Both configurations of the M1-based 13-inch MacBook Pro are currently on sale. The base model (8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage) can be had from Amazon or Best Buy for $1,149, while the upgraded 512 GB model is also down $200, selling at both merchants for 1,299 dollars.

Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch $1,849 to $3,499

Save $150 to $300

The success of the M1 led to an almost immediate thirst for what Apple would do next with its sleeve. Speculation about a possible “M2” or “M1X” swirled for months until Apple finally revealed the 2021 MacBook pro updates that brought the M1 Pro and M1 Max to consumers across its 14-inch and 16-inch lines. The M1 Max is only available in the top-of-the-line configuration of the 16-inch model, while the impressively fast M1 Pro powers the rest of the two lines, delivering speeds and battery efficiency that should interest everyone from casual users to transitional video editors.

Sales on these very new devices are still few and far between, which means you’ll have to rely on Apple’s educational pricing for now. But, if you have a qualified teacher or student, that means you can save up to $150 on a 14-inch model ($1849), or $200 on a 16-inch unit ($2299) for a basic configuration. Even the M1 Max-packing version of the 16-inch version is available at a discount of $300 for $3199. Whichever you choose, you’ll likely be happy with the amazing battery life, MagSafe charging return, and more assorted ports.
