(CNN) – The cruise line said Thursday that two guests on board its first major cruise hosting Americans since the pandemic halted the industry have tested positive for the coronavirus in a required end-of-flight test.

Celebrity Cruise Lines said in a press release that the two guests, who shared a private room on the seven-day Celebrity Millennium cruise from St. Maarten, have no symptoms, are in isolation and are being monitored by a medical team.

The Royal Caribbean group said Friday that the results of a retest of close contacts of passengers came back negative. Royal Caribbean is the parent company of Celebrity Cruises.

When the ship returns to St. Maarten on Saturday, Celebrity will provide private transportation for passengers, according to Royal Caribbean Group.

The ship set sail on Saturday, the statement said, “with fully vaccinated crew and guests and following comprehensive protocols that comply with our destination partners and exceed CDC guidelines to protect the health and safety of our guests.”

Fully vaccinated people are more than 90% protected from infection, with partially vaccinated people 81% less likely to be infected than unvaccinated people, according to the ongoing study of essential workers who received the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccine.

Those in the study who developed a superinfection after one or two doses had 40% fewer viruses in their bodies and 58% less likely to develop a fever. They spent two days less in bed than unvaccinated Covid-19 patients.

Guests had to show negative Covid-19 tests

All guests on board the Celebrity Millennium cruise – with layovers in ports in Barbados, Aruba and Curacao – were required to show evidence of vaccination and test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours of leaving St Maarten on Saturday, the statement said.

About 500 passengers were on board, more than 95% of them were fully vaccinated. Children who have not yet been vaccinated have been asked to show negative Covid-19 tests.

The details of vaccinating passengers infected with the Covid virus were not immediately known.

“This situation demonstrates that our stringent health and safety protocols are working to protect our staff, our guests, and the communities we visit,” the press release read.

The Royal Caribbean Group, the parent company of Celebrity Cruise Lines, Monday said that back To Barbados “for the first time in over a year something really special”.

“Every calculated step has been taken to ensure the health and safety of our guests, crew and residents of this cherished destination is protected and we are grateful,” the post said on Twitter.
